Ground-breaking ceremony for biomass plant
Ofa Bamberg GmbH takes another step towards a sustainable future
The construction of a biomass plant is an important component of the medical device manufacturer's sustainability strategy, as it will enable almost CO2-neutral production at the Bamberg site. Shortly before Christmas, the excavators rolled in to prepare the foundations for Ofa Bamberg GmbH's new biomass plant. Chief Executive Officer Rainer Kliewe and Technical Director Dr. Fabian Bohnen turned the first sod.
Ofa Bamberg GmbH will use the new biomass plant to generate the process heat required for production and heating the building at the same time. This means that the manufacturer of medical compression stockings and bandages produces almost CO2-neutral.
Rainer Kliewe, Chief Executive Officer of Ofa Bamberg GmbH, sees the construction of the new plant as a further step towards a sustainable future: "We have made it to our mission to act sustainably in all areas and have firmly anchored sustainability in our corporate values. This doesn't just mean focussing on sustainable materials for our products and their packaging. I am delighted that our new heating system will enable us to use resources sparingly and make the entire production process energy-efficient."
After more than two years of planning, the assembly of the biomass plant, which will be transported from southern Thuringia by heavy goods vehicle, will begin in the first quarter of 2024. The plant will finally go into operation in the middle of the year.
